Top DJ opens own trendy club in ghetto!

Top radio DJ and businessman Ronald Chiwanza more popularly known as DJ D-Train on SFM has opened a new and trendy club in Highfield called Front Page Sports Bar.

D-Train who hosts the popular SFM Breakfast Show on Sundays told Gem Nation News that he was doing what he enjoys most.

“It feels quite satisfying to own a business which in turn is a passion,” he said adding that. “Nothing feels as good as doing something that you enjoy. Having been in the business for decades I have gained enough experience in showbiz.”

He explained further when pressed on the concept of the new club: “Coming up with concepts is easy and the relationship with entertainment stakeholders like musicians and DJs make it even easier. “I am one of them and I know how to navigate the terrain.”

The club is situated in Harare’s oldest suburb in Lusaka, Highfield.

The Front Page Sports Bar opens six days a week from Tuesday to Sunday.

The concept is meant to attract the mature clientele especially Fridays which are reserved for old.

Some fellow DJs with an old skool bias are occasionally invited to play while Saturdays are party nights where virtually anything goes with D-Train’s proteges DJ Loxy and DJ Bryn.

Sundays are Jam sessions anchored by Talking Guitars and occasionally Zimjazz bands are invited on that day.

“The business is wholly owned and is a dream come true since I started Djing back in the 80’s. Already bands like Transit Crew, Too Open, Diamond Musica and Progress Chipfumo have played before a full house at the club.

“Our aim is to bring top notch entertainment to the ghetto and give them a chance to see some of the artists they only see on TV.

“We have exciting plans for the club and we are reinventing the ghetto nightlife,” DJ D-Train said.

A father of three boys the eldest being Tapfuma who is studying his second year in Hospitality at the University of Zimbabwe.

The other two are still at primary level Tanaka (Grade 7) and Tadiwa (Grade 6).

“I have been married to Sandra Chiwanza nee-Chiota for the past 21 years and she understands the long hours and busy schedules. Of course, I always make sure a create family time,” said the Wheels of Steel DJ.
